And With His Stripes - No. 25

This chorus is almost a continuation of the previous, and in fact is typically sung with only a brief break between.  The words are taken from the last sentence of the same two-verse passage of Isaiah 53 that Surely is taken from. There is something about this chorus that has always attracted me.  Its two-beat-per-measure structure seems to propel the singer ever forward beginning first with a simple, two-voice beginning, slowly building toward a fully layered, emotional climax as the choir recounts the terrible price Jesus paid for the remission of our sins.
