This chorus is not being performed in 2025. This chorus ends Part 1 of Messiah. The words are taken from Matthew 11:30 and are actually the words of Jesus himself, although Charles Jennons, the clergyman responsible for choosing the verses used in Messiah, chose to slightly alter the text from the first-person to the third. Jesus said, "For my yoke is easy..." (first-person), but in this chorus we sing instead, "For his yoke is easy" (third-person). Either way, the message is clear and wonderful. Jesus invites all who are burdened down with the cares and concerns of this life to lay them at his feet. |

He will give us rest and a "yoke" which is easy and light! The video example to the right is of the Robert Shaw Chorale, conducted by the late Robert Shaw. Although an old recording, the Robert Shaw Chorale recordings from the past are considered classic. Truly one of the great choirs of the recent past.
